- Go Vegan.
- Recycle.
- Buy less stuff.
- Don’t drive as much.
- If possible, drive a fuel-efficient car.
- Ride public transportation as often as you can.
- Turn off lights when you leave the room.
- Conserve water. Install low-flow faucets and showerheads, and put a jar in your toilet tank (or install a low-volume toilet).
- Use soy candles. (Paraffin comes from petroleum.)
- Shop for organic foods and goods.
- Buy recycled paper and paper products.
- Use green household and cleaning supplies made by companies like Earth Friendly and Seventh Generation.
- Do your laundry using cold water. (This saves energy.)
- Look for cruelty-free products.
- Bring cloth shopping bags for all your purchases.
- Vote for political candidates who have strong positions on environmental issues and whose legislative records demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment.
- Support environmental organizations like Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Defenders of Wildlife, Earthjustice, and In Defense of Animals.
- Sign petitions and send letters and e-mail in support of green causes.
- Be an advocate for peace and social justice.
- Invest in green companies and mutual funds.
- Find out what’s really going on in the world from independent news sources.
- Have an organic yard. Use green gardening products made by companies like Clean Air Gardening and Planet Natural.
- Don’t waste anything.
- Be respectful of everything.
- And most important of all—keep your heart open!
